I’m Samia - a first-year PhD student in Computer Science @ UC Berkeley, co-advised by Bjoern Hartmann and Marti Hearst. I am currently interested in human-AI interaction, specifically how algorithmically‐mediated environments (media platforms, agent interactions) reshape information proliferation, community dynamics, and our ability to express & address critical social needs. Drawing on methods in HCI and ML, I aim to build systems that enhance human understanding, expression, and connection within these new paradigms.

I am grateful to have been awarded an NSF CSGrad4US Fellowship as well as Berkeley’s Chancellor’s Fellowship to support my research.

Previously, I was a SWE @ Squarespace and conducted research at the Computational Design Lab @ Columbia University. In my free time, I am also interested in ecology / conservation, illustration, archaeology and data visualization.
