hello!
I’m Samia - a first-year PhD student in Computer Science (HCI) @ UC Berkeley, co-advised by Bjoern Hartmann and Marti Hearst. My current research leverages computer vision and machine learning to investigate how AI‐mediated environments actively shape the information we consume, create, and share on a daily basis: from algorithmic visual media to news feeds. Drawing on this work, I aim to build systems that enhance human understanding, expression, and connection within these new paradigms.
I am grateful to have been awarded an NSF CSGrad4US Fellowship as well as Berkeley’s Chancellor’s Fellowship to support my research.
Previously, I was a SWE @ Squarespace and conducted research at the Computational Design Lab @ Columbia University with Prof. Lydia Chilton. In my free time, I am also interested in ecology / conservation, illustration, archaeology and data visualization.
